A little history
The Cro-Magnon Men lived there, on the plateau, leaving here and there some tools...
But did they descend to the bottom of the great aven? Mystery...
The first "official" explorations date back to the 1890s: workers from the railway line, linking Brive-La Gaillarde to Cahors, tried the experiment, followed soon by the inhabitants of the region who descended with simple help Strings.
Puis vinrent les savants régionaux, Messieurs Rupin, Lalande, Valat.
Their surprise was so great, by discovering the beauty of the abyss, that they warned the great speleologist of the time, Edouard Alfred Martel, who came to explore it in 1891 and 1892.

The magic of the underground world
The Gouffre de La Fage opens into the heart of nature, in a vast undergrowth, in the commune of Noailles, 8 kilometers south of Brive-la-Gaillarde, and near the classified villages of Turenne and Collonges La Rouge, in Corrèze, on the border of the departments of Lot and Dordogne.
It offers multiple aspects to its visitors:
- Richness and density of concretions
- Paleontological deposit
- Colony of bats, visible at certain times of the year, to the amazement of its visitors...

Entertainment for children
In the Gouffre de la Fage, in the Limousin region, through the activities offered, children can discover activities.
The "petit archéo" workshop is offered to children between the ages of 7 and 12 and includes several experiments designed to understand the role of water in the formation of underground cavities, fossil formation, excavation techniques and Fingerprints.
Each child leaves with a real fossil, 2 casts (fossil and trace of animal) and other surprises!
Approximate duration of the workshop: 1h00.
